AI in your Workspace.
On 14th March 2023, Google came public with a prominent announcement of bringing the power of generative AI to developers and businesses through its Google Cloud and MakerSuite and AI composition for Google Workspace. The previews include automated email, AI modeling, and developer tools. Let’s explore the new functionalities for developers and everyday Google Workspace users.
Firstly, Google is making writing more effortless for users by introducing new AI-powered features in Google Workspace. They can use Google’s AI to rewrite emails in a particular style or tone or even generate entire documents from start to finish. Simply asking the system to “generate a plan for a sales meeting” or similar will create a simple piece of writing that can be edited to adjust for the user’s idea. The AI can also help redraft documents to fit a more formal tone or concentrate their content into a more compact form. Although Google has already had smart compose as part of the language model capability for a long time, the tech giant is now taking it to the next level by applying the generative AI functionality. This functionality could potentially decrease the use of ChatGPT in generating pieces of writing to the prompt of a user!
As for the news regarding the developer's and business side of the equation, according to The Keyword, Google’s official blog, they’re introducing the PaLM API, “an easy and safe way to build on top of our best language models.” PaLM API is designed as an accessible entry point to use Google’s large language models for anything from content generation and chat to more general-purpose analysis. That API works alongside a tool called MakerSuite, which can be used to create sample code for developers.
Lastly, a new functionality for Vertex AI was announced to let companies use Google’s technology to create and customize their AI applications. The Generative AI App Builder lets users use already designed templates to automatically generate bots, custom search engines, and even digital assistants in less time, while the generative AI support coming to Vertex lets them build and customize more granular way. It’s a significant step in advancing the Vertex platform. The AI/ML platform market is rapidly adopting generative AI capabilities, and the new functionality is a step to get ahead of the other major players in that area. Google said it would make the new capabilities available to “trusted testers” throughout the year before rolling them out publicly.
In conclusion, Google's recent announcement regarding the introduction of generative AI capabilities in Google Workspace, MakerSuite, and Vertex AI is a significant development that has the potential to revolutionize the way we work and interact with technology. With features such as AI-powered writing assistance, the PaLM API for developers, and the Generative AI App Builder for businesses, Google is making it easier than ever to leverage the power of large language models and build customized AI applications.
